Dedicated to the memory of Mark Stanton

This site is a tribute to Mark Stanton. He is much loved and will always be remembered.

Mark passed away on 14 June 2013 aged 44, after a gruelling 5-year battle with Motor Neurone Disease, leaving behind wife Fiona and two children Cody [now 15] and Lorelai [now 12]. Mark is well-known for his footballing legacy as well as dedication to MAF where he worked for 11 years and met Fiona in 2002.

Remembered locally as a record striker for Ashford United FC – famously scoring twice at an FA cup replay at Fulham – Mark was also signed by Folkestone Invicta and Hythe Town during his local sporting career.

As well as being skilled on the football pitch, Mark was an all-round sportsman and competed at county-level in table-tennis as well as regularly enjoying golf, tennis, cricket, and squash. A practicing Christian for most of his life, Mark was a committed member of both Barton Church Canterbury – where attended when he met Fiona – and later South Kent Community Church [SKCC] when the couple settled in Folkestone.

Visiting Mark’s memorial stone laid at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium – where he held a season ticket – as well as spending a special day in London with the two children on the tenth anniversary of Mark’s death, Fiona said, “Ten years is far too long not to have seen that smile, but knowing how many people still think of and remember Mark keeps his memory alive.”
